What's wrong with FB? [Nov. 11th, 2009|03:30 pm]
I swear lately Facebook's been acting really weird. I post something and my post is nowhere to be found. It's on my personal profile but not on the updates feed like it's supposed to be. One of my other friends on there, I couldn't see her post till I looked on her profile, the same. I did sort of send a heads up to the FB team to see if that will help. But still, just retarded and weird. Well, to anyone I have on my FB, if I can't get my posts to work correctly in FB, I'll be posting here. And I do like to update to here from time to time anyway.

Fall trip home, part 2 [Oct. 27th, 2009|07:08 pm]
On Mon. we went out to do some errands, one was stopping by Target and Walmart so Ben and I could buy some Indiana and Colts souvenirs for ourselves and for Ben's young niece and nephew (who asked for Colts attire). Afterwords we ate at Chik-Fil-A for lunch (not in Seattle) and headed over to both the Zionsville Country Market and Stuckey Farms. I wanted Ben to see how nuts Indiana is about pumpkins and harvest. We got a couple of gourds, which I left at my parents' house.

On Tues. we drove down to Metamora, IN, which is down in southeast Indiana. It's an old antique town that had a windmill and old shoppes. It's pretty there cuz it's very hilly in that part of the state, reminding Ben and I of Seattle.

On Wens. we had to say goodbye. It was a bit hard for me, as it always is.
All in all, it was a great trip and I was happy that my bf got to get to know my dysfunctional family a bit more, lol! But I was assured that my folks would come to visit me and Ben in Seattle around the holidays or possibly in Jan. or Feb. Hopefully that will happen. Otherwise my folks thought about coming for a visit in the summertime.

Fall trip home, part 1 [Oct. 27th, 2009|01:53 pm]
*linked from FaceBook*

So I finally have time to post about this. Last week, Oct. 14th - Oct 21st, I flew home to Indianapolis to visit my folks, this time with my bf (Ben) in tow, :) He's met my parents before when they came out here to Seattle, last year to visit me. So we all decided this time he could come with me.

We left our apt in Seattle and went down to the airport in Seattle's newest mode of transportation, the Light Rail train. It just opened back this summer. It goes to various Seattle-surrounding neighborhoods (much like where we live, Beacon Hill, which is just south of downtown) and it transports people to downtown and all the way down to the airport. Waaaaay better than taking the nasty bus! It's still being built as we speak and soon enough it will go father south than the airport and further north than downtown.

Blue Angels [Jul. 31st, 2009|01:44 pm]
Well, it's that time of year again. It's Seafair! Or at least it will be this weekend. It's essentially a big summer festival they have every year in Seattle. They have a hydroplane race on Lake Washington, a marathon, fireworks and a concert, and the Blue Angels performing in an air show! As I speak, I hear the Blue Angels overhead circling around. They are apparently practicing, and what a beautiful day and beautiful city do to it over! Here's the link for more info: http://www.seafair.com/events/airshow/

I remember back in Indiana when I'd go to the Indy Air Show down at that old airfield off I-70, and it also was around this time of year also. Though according to their schedules website: http://www.blueangels.navy.mil/schedules.htm looks like they were in Indy already this year; back in June. The highlight was always the Blue Angels though, just cuz they were so damn good! Also just like when we'd go to the airshow, sometimes we wouldn't bother paying admission to get in but rather watch them for free from our parking spot. That's how it is where I live since I live near downtown Seattle. We can see 'em from our apartment! They are really loud flying overhead sometimes too, scared my poor cat!

Do you Facebook? [Jul. 15th, 2009|09:16 pm]
I post little tidbits there, little random thoughts too. It appears that it's winning over the once-popular Myspace too. Facebook is less annoying than Myspace and I'm finding more ppl use it now, ppl I know and can easily connect to. Though admittedly, I do blog on LJ more. Anyway, if you'd like to connect to me there, (I think this link will work) here ya go:

Good news! [Jul. 11th, 2009|04:00 pm]
I know I posted only a few months about about finally getting another job, only to have that job end a short few weeks later. For that reason, I am a bit more careful about posting good news but...I still I have to post about this!

Updates [Jun. 22nd, 2009|02:14 pm]
No easy way for me to say it but it turns out my job at the printing/mailing place didn't work out. I was told to "Not be distracted with anything else while printing", least for this one job I was working on, and I did. I was sooooo effing bored between printing that I sorta surfed the net and worked on smaller jobs in-between. Mostly everything was fine though, till the end of the day I screwed up a small portion of the job. And it wasn't even truly because I was "distracted" but rather, because the machine was printing off-kilter a little bit and I didn't notice it till a bit later.

I was keeping an eye on the machine and was right by it, plus I was thoroughly checking the quality of the prints to make sure they weren't smudging and that they were in aligned correctly. I mostly just flipped thru them and could usually tell. But somehow when I was flipping thru them, I happened to miss a batch of them. But we had enough materials to finish the job so I reprinted all the mess-ups, and I got it done on time and it was sent on time to the customer. So I dunno what the big deal was. Sure I didn't "do what my boss asked" but he said it in a way to me that didn't sound like a warning, per se. And I didn't think it mattered if I was working on something else or web-surfed alittle while it was going, rather than just standing around being bored.

Finally good news! [May. 3rd, 2009|04:55 pm]
[mood |accomplished]

Well I finally got a job, after four long months of unemployment. I've actually been working at this place for several weeks now, but since I was still on edge about loosing my last job (laid off), I wanted to make sure this job was something 'for real'. So I held off on making it public till now.

Back home visiting [Apr. 9th, 2009|09:18 am]
Yesterday I flew from Seattle to Indianapolis to visit my folks for a week around Easter. I did the same thing last year and visited them when they were still living in Houston, TX. But unfortunately, like myself, my dad also got laid off from his engineering job he had down there so my folks had to move back to Indy a couple of months ago. Bad everywhere in the country, :( At least they are back in their own house again though, which is paid off and he's getting unemployment, so all's good for now.

Anyway, sad news aside, my folks decided to help fund my air ticket for me to come back over the holiday. And fortunately I found a really cheap Southwest ticket so I snagged it! $226 isn't bad at all esp. if you're traveling THAT far! Usually tickets from Seattle to Indy or vice versa run like $300 and up, esp. if it's during the summer months, or at Xmas time...even more! So I'm back typing on their oooooooold Compaq computer that I used to use yeeeeeears ago, and even today want to kick it for being so slow!

Not sure what plans we have in store. We may take one day trip up to Lake Michigan, since they know I love that lake and love big bodies of water (I mean obviously huh, I DO live in Seattle after all; right next to water). In the summer months when I fly back, we always go up there for the day and go swimming. Otherwise I know I'll be going to some Easter church services with them, decorating eggs, visiting friends like Kristy, :) Glad to be back though. Even though I moved away I still do miss some things, and definately some people in Indy! Plus my dog isn't doing well as she's very old and feeble. So I wanted to see her one last time before she passes, which will probably be within the year... :(

Emerald City Comic Con [Apr. 6th, 2009|11:11 pm]
Every year Seattle has a comic book convention in the Spring. Last year I went for the first time with my fellow TMNT fan-friend, Andrew Modeen. Anyway the con was this past weekend and my bf, Ben, and I went just yesterday. He actually had never officially been to a comic con before but I know he very much enjoyed it, as he's secretly somewhat of a comic book and Star Trek geek, ;) He was like a kid in a candy shop, you could say, heheh! So I had fun going with him for the first time.

Wonderful weather [Apr. 5th, 2009|07:04 pm]
[Current Location |outside walking!]

Today and the entire weekend, Seattle's had some surprizingly really NICE weather! It's been sunny and warm and today especially it was 70 degrees! Both here and in Indiana it seems to get nice and warm for a few days, early in April like this. Then unfortunately, it goes back to being it's normal 55 degrees or so.

One thing I've noticed is how Seattle's weather is much like Indiana's in that it can be unpredictable at times. But it strongly varies year to year. One year it started getting really hot, around 90 degrees, for a couple of weeks in May. While other times, it's still chilly, around only 65 degrees, in June. Because of this unpredictability, hot summer weather isn't usually guaranteed around here till about July 4th.

Blogging sites [Mar. 28th, 2009|02:28 pm]
[mood | calm]

With the popularity of places social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook, I sometimes wonder if people actually blog on there.

I do have a Myspace, but I don't do much on there except network with old or new friends. I don't really blog too often there as I do here.

Does anyone here blog anywhere else besides here, and of so, which sites do you use?

Taxes....*grrr*....and other [Mar. 26th, 2009|05:31 pm]
[mood | irritated]

I just want to say that I really hate taxes! It always seems like everyone I know gets a refund, and I never do. I just got done filing mine and as usual, I always owe money. I know it isn't THAT much, but still I feel like, "Oh sure, kick a guy when they're already down!" Not to mention that unemployment benefits is taxable too, which I didn't withhold any taxes on it cuz I get so little anyway and I need it. What a crock!

Anyway, I feel like I'm complaining when I come on here and I'm sorry. Just life has pretty much sucked the last few months. In a way not working and getting free money is nice but....it's boring sitting around. And I hate being lazy. Really, I'd RATHER be busy at a job and actually earning my income.

As I said though, I am volunteering. I will be volunteering for a different organization next month in addition to the Humane Society, which involves some graphic design projects and more office work. Unless of course, I land a job before that and the hours conflict with the volunteering schedule.

I also try to stay occupied around the house, and no I don't mean by simply watching tv and playing video games (that gets boring too). Lately we've been doing some Spring cleaning, and pretty much cleaned up the entire apartment. We also rearranged it a bit, putting the sofa, tv, tables, shelves, in different spots. We even bought an inexpensive shelf to arrange some of the random crap that was lying around the apartment, nice and organized.

Lastly, another thing that helps keep my mind and body occupied is exercise. I do lots of workout dvds at home. I am also trying to loose a few lbs (I've been eating healthier), ;-) The kinds of workouts I do are usually advanced level, so I usually work up quite a sweat and burn lots of calories. My favorite workouts are step aerobics, bootcamp, kickboxing (Tae-bo & other), strength-training (with dumbells) and toning (pilates/yoga). It'd also be nice to have access to a gym but obviously can't afford that right now. I like working out outside in the warmer months as well.

Job fairs suck! [Feb. 4th, 2009|04:28 pm]
[mood | annoyed]

I went to a big one today in downtown Seattle, the biggest and most crowded one I've ever been to. My thought: absolute waste of time! I go in there and ask about jobs at the booths and many of the recruiters' response was, "Our jobs are listed on our website and that's where you apply for them." OK. Then why did I waste my time, gas, and parking money to go to this job fair when all I have to do is search for jobs online? So I went to this organizations website and they had 3 jobs listed - none of which I qualified for. So much for that!

Even when I do go to the job fairs, they are almost always filled with sales, managing, and finance. NONE of those jobs am I looking for, or are even remotely qualified for! Maybe I'll have better luck at a student/internship job fair at the local university (most are public). I do recall making more headway with the job fairs down on the IUPUI campus, as more of those jobs are entry-level, and it was for more diverse types of careers/fields.

More job-search ranting.... )

Happy Holidays! [Dec. 31st, 2008|12:58 pm]
Last week I went home to visit my family and friend Kristy back home in Indiana. When I flew in to Indy, my mom had previously warned me about the new airport that recently opened up in Nov. And I must say...wow! Quite an improvement! The Civic Plaza, the main circle/lobby where all the restaurants/shops are right before the security, was gorgeous! Though I do miss the old airport as well, cuz you could literally park on the top floor of the garage and watch the planes take-off and land. Now you can't do that.

I spend the first few days doing things like Xmas shopping and spending time with Kristy by going to the Circle Center Mall. My family and I went to Christmas Eve mass and afterwords she made pasties as she's done every Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day itself, we had a Thanksgiving-like dinner with both turkey and beef, yummy!

The rest of the time spent, my brother and I watched Christmas movies, visited his good friend Jenny on Christmas Day night, and later on opened presents. Then on the night of the 26th, we partially celebrated my birthday by going out to eat at the RAM. It's a really good restaurant, that's like Rock Bottom, in that they brew their own beer. I had a glass of one their ales and it was damn good! Plus I got a free dessert afterwords, :) Then on the 27th, went down to see the Christmas at the Zoo, which had lots of lights everywhere. We also go to see the underwater exhibits, since it's inside where it's warm. Though surprizingly, the weather was reallllly warm that day, at around 70. Freakish...remind me of Seattle's always-changing weather.

I was supposed to be there from Dec. 19th to the 26th, but long story short, my flights got delayed/canceled twice and I didn't actually fly back till the 28th. But all the same, it comforted my mom, who was hoping I'd stay thru my birthday (Dec. 27th).

Christmas season not so joyous for me [Dec. 12th, 2008|10:49 am]
[Tags|]

I was really looking forward to the holiday season. In a way I've not completely lost interest but, I've been rather distracted by a recent and serious event. Last week I was laid off from my job at the printing co. Ben, my bf whom I met at the co. and worked in my dept., was also laid off which was the real shocker of all. He had been there for 3 1/2 years and knew how to do everything in our dept.! Me I had only been there for 1 1/2 years but still felt my job was safe as I knew how to operate a certain small printer. The only thing was that both he and I had basically no printing work at all anymore, on our respective machines. The only work that we had been doing mostly for the past month or so was just icky production stuff.

A bit long.... )

Yay Obama! [Nov. 7th, 2008|08:10 pm]
I'm a few days late on this, but I wanted to say that I'm so stoked about Barack Obama's election as president! I voted via absentee ballot the week before, avoiding the lines. However I accompanied my boyfriend, Ben, to the poles, as he also voted Obama. It was a much anticipated day and to celebrate, we visited his older sister and her family, who lived nearby. We all shared some Halloween candy, and a few "adult" beverages, while watching his victory unfold on national television. It was so amazing seeing the electoral votes race! I couldn't believe how the poles weren't even officially closed yet, and Obama was already elected.

The celebration downtown Chicago for his acceptance speech was also nothing short of amazing! I also felt it fair to mention that I was quite pleasantly surprized by John Mccain's concession speech at the end. He was very gracious about loosing the election and offered not only praises to Obama, but help if he ever needed it. I'm very proud of John Mccain, and actually felt for him when he delivered the speech. I, along with many others, felt he still would have been a good president, had he won. It's just a pity he didn't win over Bush 8 years ago, or even in the last 4 years. At least then he'd have been a bit younger.

I also feel sorry for Sarah Palin, who now has to face national humiliation for being the biggest joke to ever run for a VP. I hear that even in her home state of Alaska, some have already lost some respect for her. I just hope that she'll be able to manage and move on. Although I don't want to totally dis her either. She seemed to have good spirits, just not enough knowledge and experience.

Anyway, that's my ramblings on the election. Did I mention...I damn near cried the other day when Obama won? Such an emotional, pivotal moment in US history! I shall remember Nov. 4th, 2008 forever... :)

Summer trip home [Sep. 10th, 2008|11:02 pm]
Don't post a lot anymore I know. Been lazy. Trying to get better about it.

Anyway last month I went home and visited my family and friends in good ol' Indiana. It's always surreal anymore to step in the old house, seeing how I lived there for soooooooooooooooo long and now don't live there at all anymore. But it's only weird for the first hour or so, then I'm already used to it again, like I never left. Effed up feeling!

Boyfriend's birthday [Jul. 20th, 2008|04:34 pm]
Today he is turning 29. We sort of celebrated all weekend, doing different things with different people. On Fri. we went with coworkers after work to a large Chinese buffet that serves crab legs...ooh soo good, :) And then surprizingly afterwords, we actually were able to get seats for The Dark Knight at the nearby theater. Brand new theater btw, was opening night. Nice selling tactic on their behalf. The movie was phenomenal btw. All of you naysayers who don't wanna go see it....trust me, GIVE it a chance. It really is THAT f**king awesome! At least rent it when it comes out.

Yesterday didn't turn out so well, but that was all because of bad planning on my behalf. I really TRIED to do right, but ended up messing up, sort of. I spent nearly an hour trying to find the right set of earrings (rings...biker/rocker types wear them in both ears) and I ended up getting the wrong color...*DOH!* His friends are in a band and they were performing at a karaoke bar last night. I managed to leave too late, purely on accident, and ended up getting off on the wrong road and getting lost trying to find my way to this place...*another DOH* I felt really bad too cuz I really wanted to see them and there was some miscommunication from him to me about WHEN they were going on.

However I did have one saving grace. The other gift I got him was a George Carlin dvd of his best stuff...including the infamous, "7 words you can't say on television" skit. Just heard some of his stuff recently when I overheard Ben play it off Youtube. Funny ass s**t! I also learned he recently died. Very tragic, :( Anyway we were watching some this morning and it is good stuff!

Today he and I will be getting together later and hang with another group he's involved in, a car club, that fixed up and refurbs old classic cars/motorcycles. The group is called The Rat Patrol. But this time I'm going to be ON TIME! Tired of getting places late, esp. for his special day.

Anyway...off to bake his cake, :)
